Though we don’t want to speak too soon, it seems like spring is on the way here in Michigan! Whether you’re getting ready to sell or just want to keep everything in tip-top shape, we’ve got a few tips to prepare your home for warmer weather.
Change outdoor light bulbs. Give all light fixtures a good wipe down and switch the bulbs with energy-efficient replacements.
Freshen up outdoor furniture. Clean the things that have been in storage, and sand, paint, or polish things that have been outside all winter. Fix anything that may have been damaged from rust or weather.
Give your front door a face lift. Polish the knob and hinges, wipe down the surface, and consider giving it a fresh coat of paint. Get a new welcome mat for a refreshing change, too!
Plan your landscaping. Even if it’s still too cold to do much, determine landscape features you want to keep and those you want to change. Check the local home improvement store for sales on supplies like fertilizer, gloves, shears, and more.
Clear gutters. Inspect downspouts and gutters before you get too much wet weather, since leaves and sticks and other debris can build up and end up costing you a lot in repairs. Clogs frequently occur in the “elbows” of downspouts, so take these down to inspect for buildup.
Take care of your walkways. Repair cracks, and replace loose bricks or paves. Give everything a good power washing to remove a winter’s worth of grime.
